Surf & Stay… Creating a Coastal Retreat in Cornwall
There’s something special about Cornwall in autumn.
By September, the summer crowds have started to disappear, the sea is still holding onto some of its summer warmth and the Atlantic begins to deliver more consistent swell. For surfers, it can be a brilliant time for a surf trip in Cornwall. The beaches are quieter, there’s more room to explore. But for us, the perfect surf trip isn't just about the time spent in the water. It’s about everything around it, too.
Finding your own corner of Cornwall
One of the things we love about Cornwall is that you don't have to stay beside the most famous surf beach. Have a good base and you can get out and explore. Check the conditions, jump in the car and discover a different beach or hidden corner of the coast each day. We've seen some brilliant examples of this through our customers who have created their own surf and coastal retreats using Timeless Spaces.
The Idle Hour, for example, features one of our Lowen Shepherd Huts. It's a beautiful base for exploring the north Cornish coast, with surf spots including Polzeath, Trebarwith Strand and Widemouth Bay within reach.
Further west, Castle Brae Farm near Penzance is home to another Timeless built Shepherd Hut. From here, guests can explore the far west of Cornwall and head towards Sennen when the swell is looking good. And then there's The Sanctuary in Fowey, created using one of our Lowarth Pods.
These are independent retreats created by our customers. We don't operate the accommodation ourselves; we build the spaces that allow people to create something special of their own. And we love seeing what they do with them!
Creating the complete surf retreat
If you're thinking about creating your own surf retreat or glamping retreat in Cornwall, it's worth thinking beyond the accommodation itself. The little details can make a huge difference to the experience.
A surfboard rack means guests have somewhere safe and convenient to keep their boards. An outdoor shower makes it easy to rinse off after a morning in the sea. Covered board and wetsuit storage gives everything a place to dry, while a fire pit creates somewhere to gather at the end of the day. These details turn a place to sleep into a proper coastal basecamp.
From Shepherd Huts to Surf Pods
At Timeless Spaces, we make a range of handcrafted spaces that can work beautifully as part of a coastal or surf accommodation project.
Our Lowen Shepherd Huts are our best selling Shepherd Hut for creating Air b n b accommodation, while our Lowarth Pods offer a more contemporary take on the traditional camping and are perfect for creating a weekend surf break or weekend retreat.
We also make cabins, garden rooms and other bespoke spaces, giving you plenty of options if you're looking to create something larger or develop a collection of different accommodation types.
Whether you're imagining one beautiful Shepherd Hut tucked into a field or a surf retreat, we can help you create spaces that work with your land and your vision.
Surf. Explore. Stay. Slow down.
Cornwall is made for exploring, and we think the best retreats give people the freedom to do exactly that. They can become the place where people wake up, explore, surf, walk, switch off and make memories.
